Olympic Games: Train traffic disruption and teleworking

January 21st, 2020

Weekly news

Tokyo Olympic Games will take place in six months. During the Olympics, facing the threat of crowded roads and perturbated train traffic, a growing number of local companies plan to resort to teleworking. Teleworking consists for a company’s worker to work from home without going to his or her workplace.

As an illustration, “Mitsubishi Chemical” group’s president plan for about 150 employees to work through teleworking during the Olympics. There will not be any physical meeting, instead employees will use their mobile phone, computer, etc. to communicate and accomplish their job. At Daiwa House Industry, within the 23 special districts of Tokyo, around 3 000 people already planned to work at home for the duration of the Olympic Games.

As the number of Japanese companies planning to develop teleworking is dramatically increasing, attention is being drawn to whether there will be alternative ways of working that can be done at various times and places.
